Riding Together for 20 Years: Team Wescom Returned to Bike MS
A Legacy of People Helping People
On October 17-18, Team Wescom once again hit the road for Bike MS, joining thousands of cyclists across Southern California in support of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year marked a major milestone for our team: 20 years of participation in Bike MS and raising more than $2.16 for the cause.
Approximately 50 Team Wescom riders participated in this year's event, including several virtual riders who supported the cause from afar. Together, they represented a tradition of service and community that has been part of Wescom for two decades.
Bike MS aligns closely with Wescom's commitment to the credit union philosophy of "people helping people." Since Team Wescom was formed in 2007, employees from across the organization have come together alongside family members, friends, business partners, and even Wescom members to support the fight against multiple sclerosis.
Over the years, Team Wescom has achieved remarkable milestones, including:
- Growing to 123 riders in 2014, our largest team to date
- Raising a team record of $247,149 in 2018
- In 2025, another team record of raising $2M
- Celebrating 20 years of participation in 2026
The Friendships That Keep Us Riding
For longtime participant and Team Captain Chris Torres, Bike MS has provided more than the opportunity to support an important cause.
"My most consistent memory of my involvement with MS and Team Wescom is the great friendships and long-lasting relationships with many of our Team Wescom and MS participants and supporters that I have had over the many years," Torres said. "As my cycling career draws to a close, these memories will always stay close to my heart and sustain me as I march forward into the future."
Stories like Chris's highlight what makes Bike MS special. While fundraising remains at the heart of the event, the camaraderie built through training rides, fundraising efforts, and ride weekends has created lasting bonds among participants.
Why the Cause Matters
For longtime Team Wescom rider and retired Wescom team member, Tim Dolan, the cause is deeply personal.
Dolan began supporting multiple sclerosis research and awareness after witnessing two former managers struggle with the disease. Years later, after joining Wescom, he discovered fellow employees who shared his passion for Bike MS and helped establish Team Wescom.
"Ultimately in 2007 we organized Team Wescom with six riders and raised $4,305," Dolan recalled. "Wescom's participation in Bike MS created a unique camaraderie across all departments and staff. Over the years, Team Wescom grew to include business partners, family members, friends, and even our members."
He added, "Multiple sclerosis is an elusive disease that could affect anyone at any time. Wescom has always given back to the community. Bike MS and all of our training rides are a very visible example demonstrating to the community what we are all about."
Here's to 20 years of riding, fundraising, friendship, and making a difference, and to many more miles ahead.
