If I opt-in for Wescom Check Card Overdraft Protection, will my check card purchases be authorized and paid?
Not necessarily. We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay your check card transactions. An easy way to track your balances is by signing up for eBranch alerts to notify you when your balance is low or when you are overdrawn.
Are there overdraft fees?
Yes. If you opt-in to Check Card Overdraft Protection, we will charge a $30 fee each time we pay an overdraft. We will only charge you a maximum of four (4) fees per day. If you do NOT opt-in for Check Card Overdraft Protection, we will decline your check card transactions when you do not have enough money in your checking account. There is no charge to opt-in to Wescom Check Card Overdraft Protection and no fee if you never use it.
Does opting in to Check Card Overdraft Protection affect my BillPayer transactions, paper checks and ACH transactions?
No. Wescom Check Card Overdraft Protection is for Check Card transactions only. Your BillPayer, paper checks and ACH transactions are not impacted by this opt-in requirement and will be processed as usual.
What about automatic Check Card payments that I set up with a merchant?
Debit card purchases that are set up to bill automatically (like a gym membership) may continue to be approved at our discretion even if you do not opt-in to Check Card Overdraft Protection.
If I opt-in to Wescom Check Card Overdraft Protection, when will you start paying my everyday Check Card transactions?
We’ll start paying your everyday overdraft Check Card items beginning July 1, 2010.
What if I have overdraft transfer protection setup from my savings or line of credit account?
If available, funds will transfer from your overdraft source first. Check Card Overdraft Protection may cover everyday Wescom Check Card purchases that exceed your available balance plus any available overdraft sources.
What if I can’t decide or don’t want this service?
We’re happy to talk with you about options for managing your account. Just call 1-888-4WESCOM (1-888-493-7266) or visit your nearest Wescom branch. If you’re sure you don’t want your everyday Check Card transactions paid when you don’t have sufficient funds, you don’t need to do anything.
